The FIP World Heavyweight Championship is a professional wrestling world heavyweight championship owned by the independent promotion Full Impact Pro (FIP). It is currently the highest ranked championship in FIP and also was formerly contested for in Ring of Honor (ROH). It was created and debuted on September 25, 2004 at FIP's Emergence: Part 2 event.[2] The championship was known as the FIP Heavyweight Championship from September 2004 to March 2007, when it was renamed to the FIP World Heavyweight Championship after then–champion, Roderick Strong, defeated PAC in Liverpool, England at ROH's Fifth Year Festival: Liverpool event on March 3, 2007.[3]

Title reigns are determined either by professional wrestling matches between wrestlers involved in pre-existing scripted feuds and storylines, or by scripted circumstances. Wrestlers are portrayed as either villains or heroes as they follow a series of tension-building events, which culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches for the championship. All title changes happen at live events, which are usually released on DVD. The inaugural champion was Homicide, who became the champion after defeating CM Punk in the finals of a two night tournament on September 25, 2004 at FIP's Emergence: Part 2 event.[2] As of December 2009, Roderick Strong and Erick Stevens are tied for the record of most reigns, with two each.[1] FIP publishes a list of successful championship defenses (victories against challengers for the championship) for each champion on their official website, unlike major American professional wrestling promotions. As of December 2009, Strong's first reign holds the record for most defenses, with 26; Tyler Black's only reign has the least, with 1.[1] At 476 days, Homicide's reign is the longest in the title's history.[1] The current champion is Masaaki Mochizuki, who is in his first reign as champion.[1] Overall, there have been 10 reigns shared between 8 wrestlers.[1]
