Biography

Firescape are the side project of Josh Partington, whose day job is as guitarist and primary songwriter of the Coldplay-meets-Jimmy Eat World indie rockers Something Corporate. With that band on indefinite hiatus due in part to singer and pianist Andrew McMahon's bout with leukemia, Partington formed Firescape to explore a different side of his musical personality. Taking the lead vocals himself and adding guitarist and keyboardist Brian Weber, bassist Hunter MacDonald, and drummer Corey Rife, Partington gave Firescape a heavier edge than Something Corporate's melodic and piano-based approach, with a twin-guitar sound that occasionally verges on Queens of the Stone Age stoner rock matched to Partington's occasionally tremulous emo vocal style. Signing to the small indie label We the People (the City Drive, Astoria) in 2006, Firescape released their debut full-length, Dancehall Apocalypse, in the spring of 2007. ~ Stewart Mason, All Music Guide
