Plot

A federal agent is demoted to a less challenging assignment, only to have it become the most dangerous mission of her life in this action-thriller. Alex McGregor (Mariel Hemingway) is a Secret Service agent who once guarded the President of the United States, Jonathan Hayes (Gregory Harrison). But after a series of misunderstandings following an attempt on the President's life, McGregor has been reassigned to oversee security for Hayes' teenaged daughter, Jess (Monica Keena). Jess has been chafing under the pressures of having a team of agents following her everywhere, so when she makes plans to go on a white-water rafting trip, the President requests a minimal compliment of Secret Service agents. This proves to be a mistake when Jess and her companions are kidnapped by a gang of right-wing terrorists. McGregor is forced to join forces with scruffy wilderness guide Grant Carlson (Doug Savant) in order to find Jess and return her to safety. Though set in the United States, First Daughter was shot in Australia, and had its premier on American television. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

First Daughter is a 1999 action/romance television movie starring Mariel Hemingway, Gregory Harrison, Doug Savant and Diamond Dallas Page, with Monica Keena as the title role. It was directed by Armand Mastroianni.

Plot

A domestic terrorist group make an unsuccessful attempt on the life of the US President and the group leader, Michael Smith, is subsequently captured. Some members of the group manage to evade capture and continue with terrorist activities. Eight weeks later, believing the threat is over, the President organises an outdoors activity trip for his daughter, Jess, who has grown tired of the public life and constant Secret Service supervision. Jess, excited about the trip, is disappointed to learn that an SS agent that she dislikes, Alex McGregor, will be accompanying her. Jess goes so far as to spread rumours about Alex during the trip, leaving an air of animosity between the two of them. Jess is pleased to discover that some members of the hiking group are completely unaware of who she is.

Unbeknownst to the hikers, during their trip they are seen by members of the domestic terrorist group who have been hiding out in the same woods to evade capture. The terrorists initially believe they are witnessing a normal group of hikers, but soon notice bodyguards with guns. Eventually, one of the group recognises Jess, and identifies her as the daughter of President Jonathan Hayes. They quickly form a plan to kidnap Jess in order to negotiate the release of Michael Smith, their imprisoned leaser. They ambush the group, kill one of the bodyguards and kidnap Jess.

With the help of one of the river guides, Grant Coleman, Alex searches for Jess and attempts a daring rescue.
