Five News is the news programme of British broadcaster Five. It is produced by Sky News.
From 1 January 2005, Sky News was awarded the contract to provide the news for Five, replacing ITN, which had provided the channel's news service from the channel's launch in 1997.

"5 News", as it was then branded, was one of the new station's flagship programmes when it launched on 30 March 1997. It was originally produced by ITN, which at the time also provided the news for Channel 4 and ITV. It was announced on 9 March 2004 that Sky had won the new contract to provide Five with its news bulletins.[1]
The first Sky-produced bulletin was meant to be on Monday 3 January 2005 but the Boxing Day tsunami meant it premiered two days earlier in a short Saturday evening update.[2]
Over its relatively short life, it has pioneered a number of innovations in style, format and content of news and won numerous awards in its early years.[3]
On Monday 20 October 2008, Five News was given a refreshed look with new theme music, new Five News titles, and was given a "Five News at 7" name for the edition of Five News at 7pm. Natasha Kaplinsky currently anchors the 5pm bulletin called Five News with Natasha Kaplinsky and Isla Traquair anchored Five News at 7 (the 7pm edition of Five News) - Five News at 7 saw the return of Five News' presenters standing up in the studio as a new refreshed look.
On 10 August 2009, Five announced its Five News at 7 programme would be axed in Autumn 2009 along with newscaster Isla Traquair. Isla announced on Five News at 7 on the 28 of August 2009 it was her last programme. The programme didn't stop airing for another week, and on the 4th of September, Matt Barbet presented the last programme. Five News at 7 was replaced by an hour long programme called Live from Studio Five, a nightly magazine programme lasting 60 minutes, airing from 18:30 weeknights, featuring a mix of news and chat, from 14 September 2009. The Apprentice runner-up Kate Walsh will present the show,[4] along with ex-footballer Ian Wright and former glamour model Melinda Messenger. Thew new show rivals the BBC One programme The One Show.[5]
On Wednesday 9 September 2009, the Five News studio was given a refreshed look, to allow the studio to be used also by Live from Studio Five. The set was changed slightly and looks darker: the floor is now black, and the desk has now gone. However, the titles and graphics have not been changed.
On 7 October 2009, Natasha informed Five bosses she was pregnant again.[6]
In November 2009, John Partridge of facial disfigurement charity Changing Faces will present the lunchtime news bulletins all week. "We hope it will make viewers examine their own prejudices" commented Five News chief Chris Shaw.[7]
Since September 2009, the Five News website is now just a page featuring old celebrity reports with sections about the presenters and reporters/correspondents, It also includes featured articles written by Five News reporters. It no longer contains the days top news story, weather forecasts, or Natasha's Newsroom blog (which used to say what was coming up in the 5pm programme). Now, the Five News website has been merged with the Channel 5 website.
