The Flag of Tatarstan was adopted November 29, 1991 and was designed by Täwil Ğiniät ulı Xaziäxmätev (pronounced [tæˈwil ɣiniɪˈæt uˈlɯ xæziəxˈmætəf]). The green, the colour of Islam, represents the Tatars; the red stands for the Russians. The white stripe symbolizes peace between the Tatar majority and the Russian minority.
