- A collective noun for baboons.[1] The word "flange" was used by Rowan Atkinson in a sketch on 1980's UK television show Not the Nine O'Clock News in reference to a collection of baboons. It was an invented term but since then the word has now been used in scientific works about baboons who were previously described as living in a "congress", "band" or "group"
