Plot

Per its title, the Canadian sitcom Flappers was set during the Roaring Twenties. Susan Roman (for whom the series was specifically tailored), starred as May, the attractive young owner of a Montréal nightclub, where scores of Americans, victims of Prohibition, congregated to drink legally. Other regulars included Victor Desy as May's chef, who sidelined as a bootlegger catering to the U.S. trade; Denise Proulx as Francine, the chef's chief cook; and Andree Cousineau as airheaded cigarette girl Yvonne Marie. The fact that the series' scripts were bilingual, with French and English peacefully co-existing, enabled the producers to attract several top guest stars from all of the Canadian provinces, Québec included. Originally telecast by the CBC from September 21, 1979 to April 2, 1981, Flappers continued to be rerun well into the late '80s. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
