The Flint Generals are a professional ice hockey team based in Flint, Michigan. They are a member of the International Hockey League and play their home games at Perani Arena and Event Center in Flint, Michigan. Flint has been home to minor pro hockey in some incarnation since 1969, except a one year break in the 90-91 season. This incarnation of the Flint Generals came about in the 1993-1994 season, after Flint Bulldogs owner Skip Probst moved the Bulldogs from Flint to Utica, NY. Flint has won two Colonial Cup championships in the 13 year existence they've had in the UHL, the first against Thunder Bay in the 1995-1996 season, and the second in a 4-0 sweep of the Quad City Mallards in the 2000 playoffs. The 2000 Flint Generals team is generally acknowledged to be one of the best in minor pro history [citation needed] ; it was coached by former NHLer Doug Shedden and included former Toronto Maple Leaf Bobby Reynolds, former Detroit Red Wing Mark Major, former Edmonton Oiler Nick Stajuhar, two 100 point scorers in Ross Wilson and Don Parsons, UHL Defenseman of the Year Gary Roach, high flying late season additions Cory Cyrenne and Vladmir Serov, and goalie Mark Richards. Serov and Cyrenne totaled 60 points in 37 regular season games, and in the 2000 finals, Serov scored the game winning goal with 50 seconds left in game three, and the game winning goal with 3:52 left in game 4 to preserve the victories of the Generals.

Unfortunately, due to roster shakeups and instability in the coaching staff, the Generals have lost their championship caliber in recent years. Their success still remains, as they have finished below .500 only three times in 14 years, and have only missed the playoffs three times in that same span.

At the end of the 2006-07 season, the Generals have clinched 3rd place in the eastern conference and 6th place in the UHL with 75 points and a record of 33-34-9. They lost to the Kalamazoo Wings in the first round of the Colonial Cup Playoffs.
