Review

Here are 25 early- to mid-'50s tracks cut for the Specialty label, some previously unissued, varying between loose up-tempo grooves and ballads. "Baby Doll" was the hit, but the pounding boogie of "Wine Woogie" and the sassy duetting on "Boy Loves Girl" are other highlights of a pretty strong set of early-'50s R&B. But it doesn't have material they recorded during the same era for Modern, including their most famous single, "Tick Tock"/"Cherry Pie." ~ Richie Unterberger, Rovi
