Foothill Farms is a census-designated place (CDP) and unincorporated community in Sacramento County, California, USA. It is part of the SacramentoArden-ArcadeRoseville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 17,426 at the 2000 census. Foothill Farms is part of the greater North Highlands-Foothill Farms community, and comprises the zip codes 95841 and 95842.

Geography

Foothill Farms is located at 38°40′54″N 121°20′52″W / 38.68167°N 121.34778°W / 38.68167; -121.34778 (38.681736, -121.347795)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 2.3 square miles (6.0 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 17,426 people, 6,563 households, and 4,462 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 7,528.2 people per square mile (2,912.6/km²). There were 6,830 housing units at an average density of 2,950.6/sq mi (1,141.6/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 69.79% White, 12.37% African American, 1.33% Native American, 4.34% Asian, 0.53% Pacific Islander, 5.88% from other races, and 5.76% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 14.48% of the population.

There were 6,563 households out of which 36.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.1% were married couples living together, 18.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.0% were non-families. 24.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.13.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 29.1% under the age of 18, 11.6% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 19.1% from 45 to 64, and 10.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 93.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.7 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $38,049, and the median income for a family was $41,582. Males had a median income of $31,032 versus $26,414 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $16,358. About 9.9% of families and 12.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.9% of those under age 18 and 3.9% of those age 65 or over.

Politics

In the state legislature Foothill Farms is located in the 6th Senate District, represented by Democrat Darrell Steinberg, and in the 5th Assembly District, represented by Republican Roger Niello. Federally, Foothill Farms is located in California's 3rd and 5th congressional districts, which have Cook PVIs of R +7 and D +14 respectively [3] and is represented by Republican Dan Lungren and Democrat Doris Matsui respectively.
