Foothills of California

Wikipedia: Foothills of California
The Jet Propulsion Laboratory complex in Pasadena, with a distinctive foothill location

The foothills of California are groups of foothills that are located along and around San Gabriel Valley in Los Angeles County, California. They roughly follow the path of Interstate 210, giving it the name "Foothill Freeway".

The foothills basic mass transit system is a bus system called "Foothill Transit". The foothills will be receiving a new form of mass transit in about 10 years called The Metro Gold Line. The Metro Gold Line is actually functioning today, but it only serves a route from Los Angeles to Pasadena. The new extension that will serve the foothills is dubbed “Foothill Extension”.

Although the foothills look nice after some rain, they are sometimes dangerous to live in or around because of wildfires. Southern California’s Mediterranean climate promotes wildfires, with some plant species needing the fires to survive.
