Formiae (Formia), an ancient Volscian town on the Appian Way, identified by the Roman poets with Lamus, the city of the Laestrygonians in Homer's Odyssey. In the classical period it became a fashionable pleasure resort where many Romans had villas, including Cicero, who was killed nearby.
