US Military Dictionary:

Fort Monmouth

A fort located in New Jersey that is a leading center of research, development, and training for military electronics. The work is conducted by Signal Corps units. Established in 1917, the site was originally known as the Signal Corps Camp, and was the only Signal Corps post in the country. In 1925 it was renamed in reference to the Battle of Monmouth in the Revolutionary War, a battle that took place on June 28, 1778, near the future location of the fort.
