Fort Nassau (North) was a Dutch fort constructed on an island in the Hudson River near present day Albany in 1614. Because this fort flooded every summer, the Dutch left it in 1618. In 1624, the Dutch built a new fort on the west bank of the Hudson River, called Fort Orange.
The island on which Fort Nassau was constructed is now part of the mainland, and is known as Castle Island.
