Fossil Hill Public School

Fossil Hill Public School is a school located in Woodbridge, Ontario. Opened in 2003, most of the students were from Vellore Woods Public School, a neighboring school that is Fossil's rival. The school has gained more students throughout the years.

Grades

Like Vellore Woods, Fossil teaches kindergarten through grade 8. At grade 8, the students have a graduation party and leave school one week early. After students leave the school, they typically go to Emily Carr Secondary School. In grade 6, students begin to play band instruments. They include flute, saxophone, clarinet and trumpet. In grade 7, students have a choice to join percussion.

Sporting Teams and Events

Fossil Hill has many sporting events and teams. The most popular teams are Volleyball and Basket-Ball. The Volleyball try-outs have two cuts; the results typically are posted after the second cut. There are two volley ball teams and two basket-balls, girls and boys. Yearly, Fossil has a Floor Hockey tournament. The teams are randomly selected and are named after some Canadian Hockey teams eg. Leafs, Oilers, Canuks. Sometimes, Fossil also has a Primary/Junior Soccer tournament. These games are held at a hill near the school grounds. Track and Field happens around June and May at Fossil. There are two categories, track and field. The track events are as low as 100m and as high as 1500m. A student can either get first,second,third,fourth,fifth or sixth for each event. Finally, another sporting event is Cross Country. Students train at least thrice a week after school in order to be ready for the long distance race.

Neigboring Schools

Fossil mainly has two neighboring schools- Vellore Woods and St.Veronica. The students typically have more trouble with the St. Veronica students; their recesses interwine and they have to share benches. St.Veronica is our place to go if our school has a fire or other troubles. Students don't really get into trouble with Vellore Woods. Most of our students and teacher come from Vellore Woods and different schools throughout york region.

Events

Also, Fossil Hill has many upcoming events such as the talent show where children can show all their talent, the dance competition, spirit days (a day where you wear the appropriate garment such as, Crazy Hat Day), Halloween dances and many more. Through the past couple of years, all the students have been enjoying the events because of their hard work and loyalty. For the dance competition, the junior students are expected to have a time limit for their dance which is approximately 2 minutes. Fossil Hill also has a speech competition. All the students in Fossil Hill are recommended to write a educational speech that will entertain and also be appropriate for the other grades. The students get the opportunity to vote who has the best speech and the person who was recommended will perform in front of the whole school. Fossil Hill also has many Book Fairs throughout the year. Students have the opportunity to bring money in and buy reading materials in our School Library. These fairs mostly happen every two months.
