Size expressed as a relative part of a unit.

  • f. catabolic rate — the percentage of an available pool of body component, e.g. protein, iron, which is replaced, transferred or lost per unit of time. Takes account of the size of the pool of available metabolite in determining the absolute amount of it which is lost or transferred. Same principle applies in fractional transfer rate.
  • f. excretion tests, f. clearance tests — measures of urine electrolyte clearance ratios to assess renal function. They express the proportion of a substance excreted in the urine, compared with the amount filtered by the glomerulus.
