(b Pavia, c 1615; d Paris, 1681). Italian composer. He was guitar master to Louis XIV in Paris, following Charles II to London where he taught the royal family in the 1660s. He returned to Paris in 1671. Of his five extant collections for five-course Baroque guitar, three (1639-48) are in the Italian tradition, while the later books, both entitled La guitarre royalle (1671, 1674), represent the high-point of French-style Baroque guitar literature. they include 14 suites, 12 duets and four arrangements for voices and guitar.
