Francis Meli (born April 27, 1979 in
Meli scored a New Zealand Warriors' record 23 tries in the 2003 NRL season. He scored 5 of those tries in a single finals game against the Canterbury Bulldogs, a feat still unparalleled in the finals.
Francis Meli has recently committed his future to St Helens by signing a long term contract. He has become known at St Helens for his hard hitting tackling technique and power at contact. At times however he has been criticized for playing too casually and seemingly not putting his heart and soul into his rugby. There is no doubt though that a fully firing Francis Meli is a formidable prospect for any opposition.
