Francis Xavier Reagan (born July 28, 1919 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) was an American football safety who played for the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles in his seven-year National Football League career from 1941 through 1951. He led the NFL in interceptions in 1947. Reagan was drafted in the second round of the 1941 NFL Draft.
Reagan played college football at the University of Pennsylvania. He also pitched for the University of Pennsylvania varsity baseball team. In 1939 famed sportswriter Grantland Rice called him one of the two best running backs in college football...the other being Tom Harmon of the University of Michigan.
Following a brief tenure as assistant coach of the Eagles, Reagan went on to become head coach at Villanova University in 1954 staying in that position until 1959 when he was appointed Athletic Director. He remained in that position until 1961 when he went into partnership in an insurance brokerage firm in Norristown, Pennsylvania. He died of complications of lung cancer at age 52 in 1972. He is enshrined in both the Northeast Catholic Boys HS Hall of Fame and the University of Pennsylvania Hall of Fame.
