Fredensborg Kommune is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Region Hovedstaden ("Capital Region"). The municipality covers an area of 112 km2, and has a total population of 39,240 (2008). Its mayor is Olav Aaen, a member of the The liberal party (Venstre) political party.
The municipality was created January 1, 2007 from a merger of the former municipalities of Karlebo Kommune and Fredensborg-Humlebæk Kommune.
Fredensborg Palace is located in Fredensborg which is the Danish Royal Family’s spring and autumn residence. Queen Ingrid of Denmark died there.
