Biography

One of the most enduring bands in the Tokyo underground, Friction was formed in 1978 by multi-instrumentalist/composer Reck after he returned from a stay in New York, where he played with seminal No Wave acts like James Chance and the Contortions and Lydia Lunch. Over the course of two decades, Friction has had varied lineups and sounds, but Reck's fusion of punk, hard rock and noise remains a constant. In America, Friction's albums have appeared on labels like Enemy and Tzadik, who released the 1999 album Zone Tripper. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
