Friedrich Der Streitbare (Altenburg, 1370-1428, Altenburg), became duke of Saxony, and led a life of vigorous campaigning in southern Germany. The Emperor Sigismund confirmed him in the dukedom, and in 1420 made him an Elector (Kurfürst). Leipzig University was founded during his reign.
