(b Dessau, 1 March 1832; d Dresden, 23 Feb 1903). German cellist and composer. A pupil of Drechsler, he was solo cellist of the Dresden Hofkapelle for over 40 years, also touring, teaching and writing useful technical studies, workmanlike concertos and other music for the cello. He is remembered especially for his arrangement of a cello concerto in B♭ by Boccherini.
