Biography

Prominent German character actor Fritz Rasp was best known for playing boorish, lascivious fellows. Rasp began his career on-stage as a member of Max Reinhardt's theater in Berlin. He began playing minor roles in German films in 1915; by the 1920s, he had become a leading character actor in the films of Fritz Lang and other major German directors. Fritz Heinrich Rasp (13 May 1891, Bayreuth – 30 November 1976 Gräfelfing) was a German film actor who appeared in 104 films between 1916 and 1976. His most notable roles were J.J. Peachum in The Threepenny Opera and "Der Schmale" (The Thin Man) in Fritz Lang's 1927 film Metropolis; many of the scenes in which he appears are part of the film's footage long believed lost until their recovery in 2008.
