Fruit are an indie rock band from Adelaide, Australia often compared to the Indigo Girls. The group was formed in 1995. In 2003 they won the "Best Live Album" trophy at the Australian Live Music Awards.Their latest (June 2005) album is Burn.

Originally formed in 1995 by a chance meeting following a request for two groups of three to perform together at an Adelaide show:

Group 1: Jenna Bonavita, Mel Watson, Catherine Oates Group 2: Miranda Bradley, Sam Lohs, Susie Keynes

The six members decided to rehearse together to do an "encore" performance at the end of the show... way too much fun ensued and 15years later they are still performing (together and separately) in numerous locations across the globe!:)

All the members had known each other from various previous incarnations:

"Emerald Sun": Mel Watson, Jenna Bonavita, Daniel Schultze, Yanya Boston

"Breathe": Sam Lohs, Adam Budgen (future sound engineer)

"Fresh Air": Catherine Oates, Jenna Bonavita, Padma Newsome, Dylan Woolcock, Quincy La

"Kai's Dilemma": Miranda Bradley, Susie Keynes, Clive Conway, Ashley Shepherd

Fruit's first studio release was the award winning 1996 self-titled release "Fruit", followed by the much acclaimed "Skin"; then they delivered Shift Live in 1999, Here For Days in 2001 and 2002's award-winning Fruit Live At The Basement. Here For Days, which was recorded with UK producer Paul Gomersall (who has worked with George Michael, Phil Collins, Echo & the Bunnymen, even Guns N' Roses), climbed to the #3 spot in the Australian Independent Charts.

Awards & Achievements

Fruit spent ten years solidly touring internationally throughout the USA, Canada, UK, Europe, South America, Asia and New Zealand. For the last 18months they have been on an extended hiatus and have been pursuing various personal projects.

  • Voted "Best Up & Coming Live Act in Australia" – 2001 Australian Live Music Awards
  • Voted "Best Live Album" for Live at the Basement – 2003 Australian Live Music Awards
  • Record breaking CD sales at festivals across the world including WOMAD Seattle USA, WOMAD Reading UK, Bethlehem Musik Fest USA

In a musical climate where the word "independent" is tossed about a bit too freely, Fruit truly define independence from running their own record label to unloading their own equipment to planning their own future.

Fruit's most recent lineup consists of Mel Watson (lead vocalist, horn player, songwriter), Susie Keynes (lead vocalist, guitarist, songwriter) and Sam Lohs (lead vocalist, acoustic guitarist, songwriter).
