Funai Electric is in the business of digital transition. The company manufactures LCD TVs, DVD and Blu-ray disc players, computer printers, and other audiovisual gear. Its electronics, which are sold under such brands as Emerson, Philips, and Sylvania, are carried by major US retailers, including Wal-Mart and Sears. The company, which has manufacturing facilities in the Asia/Pacific region, primarily serves the North American market. (The area accounts for more than two-thirds of its sales.) It operates US-based sales subsidiary, Funai Corporation. The company, originally named Funai Mishin Shokai, was founded in 1951 by executive chairman Tetsuro Funai.
