Review

Somewhat of a concept record similar to Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark's pioneering synth pop classic, Dazzle Ships, Futurama's lyrical themes are engulfed with technology, in particular shortwave radio. "WWV" refers to a shortwave radio station, while "Cower" even samples some shortwave static. Science Park's romantism is further revealed with a cover of Magnetic Fields' "Lonely Highway." Myke Weiskopf isn't totally indebted to synth pop, however, as made evident by the upbeat "Lay You Out in Lavender," which eschews synthesizer for acoustic guitar. Even with the synthesized beats, Futurama sounds more organic than artificial. ~ Kenyon Hopkin, All Music Guide
