G

g

(Metric) As an upper-case prefix, G-, see giga-, e.g. GJ = gigajoule.

mass (Metric) As g, see gram, also prefixed variously, as in mg = milligram(s); see SI alphabet. Strictly lower-case.

acceleration As g, gravity, a representative value of Earth's gravitational acceleration at sea level, often taken as 10 m·s-2 (see standard gravity). Used, with appropriate positive and negative multipliers, for acceleration generally, especially as experienced in accelerating, braking, turning, and colliding vehicles. Hence g scale. See also G; G scale.

It should be noted that the (usually italicized) symbol g stands for the acceleration due to gravity in a general sense, too, i.e. the value particular to a location and altitude.

plane angle France As g, but used in an elevated position, i.e. g, see grade.

fundamental constant As G, see Newtonian constant of gravitation.

electromagnetics As G, see gauss.

See pitch.
