(1) (Generation 1) The first generation of a product, typically hardware, such as the Android G1 smartphone (see HTC G1).
(2) The first generation of IBM's CMOS-based mainframes (Parallel Enterprise Servers). When introduced in 1994, there was no G1 designation, which was later added to clarify the evolution of the line. See IBM mainframes and Parallel Enterprise Server.
