Galatea

Galatea (Handel: Acis and Galatea). Soprano. A part-divine sea-nymph in love with the shepherd Acis. Acis is killed by the giant Polyphemus. Devastated, Galatea transforms Acis into a stream. Created (1718) possibly by Margherita de l'Epine (wife of the composer J. C. Pepusch).
