Biography

Gallery was a soft rock band based in Detroit that centered on the talents of lead singer/guitarist/songwriter Jim Gold. Also featuring bassist/vocalist Dennis Kovarik, Gallery signed with the Sussex label and issued their debut album, Nice to Be With You, in 1972; it was co-produced by Dennis Coffey of "Scorpio" fame. The sweet title cut became a Top Five smash and the follow-ups -- Mac Davis' "I Believe in Music" and "Big City Miss Ruth Ann" -- both reached the Top 40. For their 1973 follow-up album, Gallery began billing Jim Gold out front and titled the record eponymously; they also fleshed out their studio musician-augmented lineup into an official band, with drummer Danny Brucato, second guitarist Fred DiCenso, and steel guitarist Cal Freeman. However, the album didn't produce any further hits for the group; after one last one-off single, "Love Every Little Thing About You," Gallery disbanded and Gold embarked on a solo career that produced a couple of albums in the late '70s. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide

Gallery was an American soft rock band of the 1970s. It was formed in Detroit, Michigan by Jim Gold.[1] While Gallery did record a number of songs, they are most famous for their 1972 hit single, "Nice to Be with You," written by Gold.[2] The song was arranged and produced by Dennis Coffey and Mike Theodore and released by Sussex Records, which earned the band a gold record for sales of one million copies.[2] The song reached #4 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.[2] Gallery also had a hit in 1972 with a cover of Mac Davis' "I Believe in Music," which charted moderately well at number 22.[1] They also toured across the South Pacific.

Gallery had a third hit in 1973, with a song that reached #23 on the Hot 100, called "Big City Miss Ruth Ann."[1]
