Selonding is an archaic iron gamelan, found only in Tenganan and a few other villages of East Bali. It has a mellow, laidback sound very unlike the better-known Balinese gamelans. Because the gamelan is too sacred to be played except on religious occasions, Tenganan has allowed replicas to be made for study and practice.
