With an eye to the future, a few key agreements with major game publishers, and substantial financial backing, the GameTap service launched in autumn of 2005. For a set monthly fee, the service allows broadband-connected gamers to play hundreds of previously released video games, ranging from 16-bit classics to contemporary hits, on their Windows-based home computers. After a promising first year in business, the service expanded take a publishing role as well, making high-profile, independently developed games (such as Telltale's Sam and Max adventures) available exclusively to subscribers. GameTap is part of the Turner Broadcasting System, which in turn is part of Time Warner. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide
