Evans, Gareth (1946-80) English philosopher. Evans had a meteoric career at Oxford, energetically developing a fusion of the Kantian metaphysics of Peter Strawson with the new insights into reference provided by Saul Kripke and others. His principal work was The Varieties of Reference (1982).
