Gary Riley was an American character actor with about thirty credits encompassing theatrical and made-for-TV films as well as episodes of TV series.
A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Gary Riley played Charlie Hogan, one of his best known roles, in the 1986 film Stand by Me, and also received notice for his portrayal of Dave Frazier in the 1987 comedy Summer School. He also made notable appearances as a thief who steals Steve Martin's wallet in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles and as a naive metalhead customer whom Judge Reinhold can't bear to rip off in Ruthless People after discovering his girlfriend is pregnant. He also made guest appearances on such TV shows as Knots Landing, Growing Pains, Amazing Stories (in a special hourlong episode directed by Steven Spielberg), and Airwolf.
Currently, there is conflicting information regarding the health of this actor. There is a claim that the actor died on June 10, 2007 as a result of an automobile accident. This claim is currently unverified. An alternate explanation regarding this claim is that the person who died had the same name as the actor Gary Riley but was a different and unrelated person[1]. There is presently no information on the Internet that can verify either the actor's death or that the actor is presently alive.
