  • 1983 O. Davies First Starship Omni Book of Space № 86: Five of the encounter probes would be specially designed to study gas-giant planets similar to Jupiter.
  • 1983 B. Bova Winds of Altair (1988) № 19: Riding the earliest gravity field ships, they had explored the dead gas giant worlds of Barnard's Star.
