Gavi DOCG

[GAH-vee] Also referred to as Cortese di Gavi, this docg area is located in the southeastern part of Italy's piedmont region. It encompasses an area southeast of Alexandria and directly north of Genoa and includes the town of Gavi and twelve other small villages. Gavi, which achieved DOCG status in 1998, produces dry white wine made from the cortese grape. A spumante version may be produced as well. The label term "Gavi di Gavi" is only allowed for wine producers with vineyards in the village of Gavi.
