Banking Dictionary:

General Examination

Detailed examination of a bank by its primary financial regulator. National banks are examined approximately every two years by the Comptroller of the Currency, state banks by state banking departments. The Federal Reserve Board examines state banks that are Member Banks in the Federal Reserve System and inspects financial records of bank holding companies (and financial holding companies).
