- Australia: The General Post Office is the name of the building in each state or territory capital city which contains or once contained the main post office for that state or territory, including:
- India, It is the term for the headquarters of a postal circle. General Post Office, Mumbai is the HQ for Maharashtra postal circle, PIN code 400001. The HQ of Tamil Nadu postal circle will be GPO, Chennai, PIN Code 600001.
- China:
- There was a General Post Office in Shanghai. The building is the headquarters of the postal services in Shanghai, but is no longer known as the "General Post Office".
- Hong Kong: General Post Office is located in Central. It has the headquarters of Hongkong Post.
- United States: the general post office is called the General Mail Facility and it serves as the primary collection, sorting and distribution point for a given area.
- The term also refers to the Kuala Lumpur General Post Office, the central post office of Pos Malaysia.
