Geoffrey Austin: Student
Geoffrey Austin: Student (1895), Canon Patrick Sheehan's first novel, warning of the dangers of college education for talented young people when unaccompanied by religious training. In The Triumph of Failure (1899), a sequel, Austin drifts from one poorly-paid job in Dublin to another while his friend Charles Travers sets about organizing a religious revival. Travers's career comes to a humiliating end when he is tried on trumped-up charges.
