Hager, Georg (Nuremberg, c.1560-c.1640, Nuremberg), a shoemaker, who was probably a pupil of Hans Sachs. As a young man he spent some years in Breslau and was active in the school of Meistergesang there. He was a devoted adherent of the art and maintained the tradition of the earlier Meistersinger well into the 17th c., writing more than 1, 000 songs, over 600 of which survive in his own hand. They are printed in Georg Hager, a Meistersinger of Nürnberg, ed. C. Bell (4 vols., 1947, Berkeley, USA).
