| 1901 | Graustark. The Indiana writer's first novel borrows from Anthony Hope's popular Prisoner of Zenda (1894), sending an American into a mythical kingdom where he falls in love with a princess. Popular sequels--Beverly of Graustark (1904) and The Prince of Graustark (1914)--would follow. |
| 1902 | Brewster's Millions. McCutcheon's second novel, about an heir who must give away a million dollars, becomes one of the era's biggest-selling books. It would be successfully adapted for the stage by Winchell Smith in 1906. |
