US Military Dictionary: George J. Tenet

Tenet, George J. (1953-) born in New York City and the son of Greek immigrants, Tenet attended Georgetown University's School of Foreign Affairs (1976), and received a Master's degree in International Affairs from Columbia University (1978). He went on to work in both the executive and legislative branches of the government on intelligence issues, and moved up the Washington career ladder very quickly. From 1993 to 1995 he was Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Intelligence Programs at the National Security Council, and in 1995 became the deputy director of the Central Intelligence Agency. In 1997 he became the Director of that agency.
