Biography

One of the most talented Russian cinematographers in the latter part of the 20th century, Georgy Rerberg had worked with many of the most gifted directors of his home country prior to his death in July 1999. He graduated from the State Film Institute in Moscow in 1960 and shortly thereafter began his professional career with Andrei Konchalovsky's film Pervyi Uchitel in 1965. He continued to work with Konchalovsky through the remainder of the decade and also established a working relationship with Andrei Tarkovsky while working on the film Zerkalo in 1974. He became known for his various combinations of color and black-and-white scenes as a method of establishing mood, something he began experimenting with in the films Dyadya Vanya and Zerkalo in the early '70s.
