Gerald Gazdar

Gerald Gazdar (born February 24, 1950) is a linguist and computer scientist.

He graduated from the University of East Anglia in 1970, and completed his master's degree in 1972 at the University of Reading, where he also received his PhD in 1976. He became a lecturer at the University of Sussex in 1975, and became Professor of Computational Linguistics there in 1985. He retired in 2002.

Along with his colleagues Ewan Klein, Geoffrey Pullum and Ivan Sag, Gazdar pioneered Generalized Phrase Structure Grammar.
