Biography

A Queens rapper with a streetwise attitude as well as a few ties to Puff Daddy's pop-rap empire of the late '90s, Mic Geronimo grew up listening to LL Cool J and Big Daddy Kane, plus soul acts like Stevie Wonder and Prince. Discovered by producer Irv Gotti (DJ Irv) at a talent show, Mic Geronimo signed to Blunt/TVT and debuted with the 1995 LP The Natural. TVT wasn't exactly the most respected label in hip-hop, and the album made few waves despite the presence of several hard-hitting early singles, "Shit's Real" and "Masta I.C." The 1997 album Vendetta saw him with a higher profile, working with Puff Daddy-related acts the LOX and the producer himself on the single "Nothin' Move but the Money." ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

Mic Geronimo (born Michael McDermon on September 14, 1973[citation needed] in Flushing, Queens) is a rapper of African American descent who was acquainted with Irv Gotti of Murder Inc. Irv and his brother met Mic Geronimo at a Queens high school talent show, and Mic agreed to record a single ("Shit's Real," which would become a classic underground hit). Mic Geronimo landed a deal with Blunt/TVT Records and debuted with the 1995 LP The Natural.

The 1999 album Vendetta saw him with a higher profile, working with Jay-Z, Ja Rule, DMX, the LOX and Puffy himself on the single "Nothin' Move but the Money", the video for which featured porn star Heather Hunter. The video was supposed to be shot by super director Hype Williams but Hype was filming an Usher video and instead this became the first video directed by future video/film director Chris Robinson. In 2003, he released his album Long Road Back.
