- Ghayn is also a spelling for the Arabic letter ghain.
The Cyrillic letter Ghayn, Ge stroke or Ayn (in Kazakh) (Ғ,ғ) is a Г with a horizontal stroke. It is used in Kazakh, Uzbek and Tajik, where it represents a voiced uvular fricative /ʁ/. Despite having a similar shape, it is not related to the Latin F or the Greek digamma. In Kazakh and Tofa, this letter may also represent the voiced velar fricative /ɣ/.
In earlier, Arabic-alphabet-based orthographies for these languages, this sound was written with the letter ﻍ (ġayn/ghain).
Transliteration
In Kazakh and Tajik, it is transliterated as ğ or gh, and in Uzbek it is transliterated as "g'". In Azerbaijani, it is transliterated as ğ.
