Ghost Adventures is a one-hour weekly American paranormal reality television series that premiered on October 17, 2008, on the Travel Channel. The program features ghost hunters Zak Bagans, Nick Groff, and Aaron Goodwin, who investigate places that are reported to be haunted. The show is based on a documentary film filmed in 2004[1] and produced in 2006. The Sci-Fi Channel presented 4Reel Productions' Ghost Adventures: The Documentary Film in 2006. The documentary centers on the three's investigation into alleged paranormal activity in and around Virginia City, Nevada, which the crew returned to on the third season of the series. The film also received several awards, including the 2006 Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival,[2] and will be released on DVD soon.[3]

Format
Bagans, Groff, and Goodwin investigate allegedly haunted locations, hoping to capture visual or audio evidence of paranormal activity. Each episode begins with the crew touring the investigation site with its owners or caretakers. These introductions typically include Zak's narrations of the "dark history" of the places and interviews with people who claim to have witnessed paranormal phenomena at the location. The team places X's with black or gray tape at the sites of alleged activity and later returns to place static night-vision cameras at these "hot spots." After completing the tour, Bagans, Groff, and Goodwin plan their investigation strategy and then are "locked down" into the investigation site by themselves for a "dusk-until-dawn" investigation. During the investigation, Bagans, Groff, and Goodwin use a variety of equipment, including digital thermometers, EMF detectors, night vision cameras, handheld digital video cameras, digital audio recorders, and infrared cameras in an effort to capture evidence. At the end of each episode, the crew reviews and analyzes the captured audio and video footage (often with the assistance of "paranormal experts") and presents any captured evidence.
