Gibbonsdown, colloquially known as 'Gibby', is a housing estate situated in the north east area of Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales.
The area is known for its community spirit and its goal of self-improvement. Some of its notable successes include the Holm View Community Leisure Centre, the Gibbonsdown Children Centre, and the Oakfield Primary School (known as the Gibbonsdown Primary School before its reconstruction).
Over the years, the area has also acquired up a bad reputation for drug-related[citation needed] vandalism, STI's and petty crime. Things like this still happen in the area.
Notable roads include Treharne Road (known to locals as "The Treharne"), Robins Lane, and Skomer Road, which connects the area to Wenvoe. It is also home to Pencoedtre park a fine sports area, with a park for children and a paddling pool. There is also the Master Mariner pub serves great food with a good atmosphere,the area isn't as bad as some of Barry' natives would have you believe.
