Pl. gingivae [L.] the gum.

  • alveolar g. — the portion overlying the alveolar process and firmly attached to it.
  • areolar g. — the portion attached to the alveolar process by loose areolar connective tissue.
  • free g. — the portion that surrounds the tooth and is not directly attached to the tooth surface.
